In northern Italy you will find the 'shadow-village' Viganella. From november till february, for 83 days long, the village is completely in the shadow of the surrounding mountains. Since december 2006 there is a mirror put on top of the mountain, 870 meters above the village. This motorized mirror of 8 x 5 meters moves along with the sun and reflects the sunlight into the village. The idea of the mirror is initiated by the previous mayor of Viganella, Pierfranco Midali.
