During our residency in Xiamen, China, 2020, the Coronavirus engulfed the country. In no time, Xiamen became a ghost town. To curb the Corona virus, the Chinese state took several kinds of public measures. At all intersections and other strategic places in Xiamen, red banners were hung with slogans containing desirable rules of conduct in relation to Covid-19. WeChat (the Chinese version of Whatsapp) offers a function for scanning and translating the written content of an image. After scanning, the English translation is layered over the Chinese characters, creating new images. It is possible to store these translated pictures in the smartphone. The publication 'Battle Banners’ consists of 158 of these photos
