Traceurs, Amsterdam Central Station, 2008/2009

Photography Commission

In 2007 Marike Schuurman made photos of 'Traceurs', the practitioners of the philosophy 'Parkour', the art of moving, which has its origin in France.'Traceurs' make use of their body to overcome architectural obstacles as quickly and efficiently as they can. Next to the physical side of it, the most important aspect of 'Parkour' is the
freedom to gain self-knowledge and challenge your own fears. Parkour is focused on moving forward.
The panorama consists of 8 photos, put next to each other.
45 x 4 meters.
This work has been commissioned by Coördinatie Stationseiland, in collaboration with FOAM_Photography Museum Amsterdam and Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
